Singer Joan Osborne was born on July 8, 1962, in the town of Anchorage, KY, but it wasn't until relocating to New York City in the early '90s (to study at N.Y.U.'s film school) that she began to take a singing career seriously after singing Billie Holiday's classic "God Bless the Child" at a local bar's "open mic night." In addition to Holiday, Osborne looked to such legendary vocalists as Etta James and Ray Charles as role models, as the up-and-coming singer decided not to cater to major record companies and formed her own label, Womanly Hips, which resulted in such releases as 1992's in-concert Soul Show, among others. Fingerprints Lyrics

Joan Osborne

Why does it take so long for you to leave me
Once youve said goodbye
I wish it could be over quickly
Clean and painless and dry
But your kiss has left its taste with me
And your hands have left their mark
My ears are full of whispers
And murmurs in the dark
Why does it take so long for you to leave me
Now that youre not here
I wish that I could fight this feelin
Make you disappear
But my body has a memory
And it holds you close within
The smell of you at midnight
The flavor of your skin
Chorus
I feel your fingerprints
On my heart
I thought that I could handle you
I thought I was so smart
Now I feel your fingerprints
Nothin I can do
Aint it touching how I cant get over you
I cant believe I cant forget you
You didnt matter that much
Is it gonna take another man
To wash away your touch
Repeat chorus
