Singer Joan Osborne was born on July 8, 1962, in the town of Anchorage, KY, but it wasn't until relocating to New York City in the early '90s (to study at N.Y.U.'s film school) that she began to take a singing career seriously after singing Billie Holiday's classic "God Bless the Child" at a local bar's "open mic night." In addition to Holiday, Osborne looked to such legendary vocalists as Etta James and Ray Charles as role models, as the up-and-coming singer decided not to cater to major record companies and formed her own label, Womanly Hips, which resulted in such releases as 1992's in-concert Soul Show, among others. But eventually, Osborne decided to sign on with a major label, Mercury, which in turn issued the singer's next release, Relish, in March of 1995. If I Was Your Man Lyrics

Joan Osborne

Written by joan osborne, rick chertoff, rob hyman, joseph arthur, & louie perez
Floating above you
Beyond the naked eye
Blue dreams about you
Keep playing in my mind
Oh if I was
Oh if I was your man
Oh if I was
Oh if I was your man
Im just a satellite
So lazy in the breeze
Ready to fly away, I need your gravity
When I run down the path
The turns look all the same
And if I lose my way
Your mind will call my name
Oh if I was
Oh if I was your man
Oh if I was
Oh if I was your man
Lets go outside to a dark place
Where the kitty cat hides
Put on your fake wings
Give the moon a ride
When youre lonely for the angel inside
3:30 in the morning is too easy for you
But when it comes without a warning
What are you gonna do this time? you gonna do this time?
Floating above you
Beyond the naked eye
Blue dreams about you
Comes rushing through my mind
Branded with thoughts of you
Theyre tattooed on my sou;
Why dont they seem to fade
Is what Ill never know
Oh if I was
Oh if I was your man
Oh if I was
Oh if I was your man
Oh if I was
Oh if I was your man
